Professor Athol Wells

AUW trained in New Zealand but has lived for well over half his life in the UK and regards himself as a citizen of London.  His post for the last 20 years has been as a respiratory specialist at the Royal Brompton Hospital and he is affiliated to Imperial College.  He works as an ILD clinician with parallel interests in sarcoidosis and fibrotic ILD.  He been involved in a wide range of clinical and translational research areas (H-index 159, >700 publications on Medline).  He has worked on many guidelines over a period of 15-20 years.  He has been a member the Fleischner Society since 2007 and received the ERS Presidential Award in 2023.  He is the current President of the World Association of Sarcoidosis and other granulomatous Diseases.
